A vibrant red-orange iris emerges from a deep black background, framed by whimsical, decorative patterns in colors inspired by the bloom itself. This piece is the earliest work in the show, dating back to around 2009. In my “old Shayna style,” it reflects a pivotal moment in my artistic journey—when I began to move away from a purely folk art approach and started incorporating more realistic floral elements. For this exhibition, I revisited and refreshed the piece with a few subtle updates, honoring its original spirit. It’s both a nod to where I began and a quiet step forward.
